Image Rotate & Flip

Rotate images by any angle and flip horizontally or vertically

What is it and how does it work?

An image rotate tool turns a photo or graphic by an angle you choose and can flip it horizontally or vertically, then lets you download the corrected image. The most common need is the simplest: a photo that came out sideways or upside down, which a quick 90-degree turn fixes. But rotating by an arbitrary angle is just as useful for straightening a tilted horizon or a scanned document that went in crooked, and flipping mirrors an image left-to-right or top-to-bottom.

There is a meaningful difference between right-angle turns and free rotation. Rotating by 90, 180 or 270 degrees is lossless — the pixels simply move to new positions with nothing discarded. Rotating by an angle that is not a multiple of 90 has to resample the image and leaves triangular gaps at the corners, which are usually filled or cropped. Flipping is always lossless. This tool does all of it in your browser, so your images are never uploaded, and you download the result when it looks right.

Common use cases

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating an image reduce its quality?

Rotating by 90, 180 or 270 degrees is lossless — the pixels just move, nothing is lost. Rotating by any other angle requires resampling the image, which can slightly soften it, and re-saving as JPEG adds minor compression. Right-angle turns and flips keep the image pristine.

Why are there blank corners when I rotate by a small angle?

A rectangle rotated by an angle that is not a multiple of 90 no longer fits its original bounding box, so triangular gaps appear at the corners. These are typically filled with a background colour or cropped away, which is normal for any free-angle rotation.

What is the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the image around its centre, while flipping mirrors it across an axis — horizontal flip swaps left and right, vertical flip swaps top and bottom. A flip produces a mirror image, which is different from any rotation; both are useful for different fixes.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The rotation and flip happen entirely in your browser using your device, so the image never leaves your machine. You can safely correct private photos or scanned documents.
